Paralegals, or legal assistants, are in demand in legal firms, government departments, financial institutions, insurance companies and other organisations, including community centres and advice offices, magistrates' offices and estate agencies.

You need to have a strong character and be the sort of person who enjoys paying attention to detail.

Qualifications needed:

You will need a paralegal or senior paralegal diploma.

Where to train:

Institutions like the South African Law School and the South African School of Paralegal Studies offer paralegal, senior paralegal and commercial law diploma courses. These courses are designed to enable school-leavers to work as legal assistants in law and auditing firms, banks and other financial institutions, government and parastatal organisations, as well as in the private sector.
